"I enjoyed my modeling and was always happy doing it," Page says, "especially when I was playing in the water down in Florida along the beaches."
Her most acclaimed photos, the ones she's referring to that were shot near the water, were taken in 1955 by Bunny Yeager and include a nude Page frolicking along the beach and deep-sea fishing.

Bettie Page was plunging into the day's work: autographing pinups of herself in various Naughty Girl personas, with kitschy bangs, high heels, mesh hose and tasseled underwear.
Nurse Bettie. Jester Bettie. Substitute Teacher Bettie. Maid Bettie. Voodoo Bettie. Cowgirl Bettie. Jungle Bettie. Wild Orchid Bettie. Banned in Boston Bettie. Crackers in Bed Bettie.
The task ahead was arduous given her many ailments, including diabetes and stabbing pains in her back, legs and hands.
"I'm about ready to roll," she said in a Southern drawl, freshening her bright red lipstick. "But I'm going to go slow. I won't squiggle if I write slow."
CMG Worldwide, the company that markets her image, had organized the event at its Sunset Boulevard penthouse offices. The idea was to get Page's autograph on as many prints as possible, because demand for anything Page-related is soaring.

It has been (published) and stated that GRETCHEN MOL's performance as legendary Playboy pin-up BETTIE PAGE has been seen by the 83-year-old herself. Mol died her hair dark and stripped into a series of skimpy outfits to recreate the 1950s icon in 2006 movie THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE. But Page doesn't think the actress captured her perfectly. She tells Playboy, "I thought she was real pretty, with those big eyes. She was good-looking, but the way she would screw up her face and all, I never did that. I didn't think her figure was too good. She was too tall, but she had a pretty face."

Did you know that over the past few years, Bettie Page's website has received over 588 million hits. Currently the 80+ year old Bettie Page is living in Southern California. Page now makes more money off of her work than she ever has. A born-again Christian, Bettie shuns the public and recently told the Los Angeles Times she rarely leaves her house and refuses to be photographed. “I want to be remembered as I was when I was young and in my golden times,” Bettie told the newspaper. “I want to be remembered as a woman who changed people's perspectives concerning nudity in its natural form.” (source)

A California woman doing a fairly innovative project to support our troops.
My name is Gina Elise and I am a 24-year old UCLA grad–spent my first two years at UCSD. I have just completed producing the 2007 “Pin-Ups For Vets” calendar fundraiser which brings in funds for hospitalized Veterans’ programs and also provides a fun pin-up calendar to hosptialized Veterans. I am hand-delivering calendars from donors to the Veterans in the hospital—and I also am sending calendars ordered for deployed military in care packages to Iraq and Afghanistan. Each donor who purchases a calendar receives an acknowledgement from a VA Hospital staff member.
The calendar, inspired by the glamorous pin-ups of the 1940’s, has received wonderful feedback and has been covered in newspapers and on websites.
More information is available at http://www.pinupsforvets.com/; learn more about this fundraiser project for ill and injured Veterans on the behind the project page.

Bettie was a very strong student in high school, and missed earning the title of school Valedictorian and a Xcholarship to Vanderbilt University by a quarter of a grade point. She did graduate from Peabody College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1943. She married Billy Neal, who had attended high school with her, but who shortly afterwards left her for active duty in World War II, and whom she divorced in 1947.
Bettie worked in Haiti as a secretary for a furniture company for a short period of time and then moved to New York city, where she supported herself as a secretary while looking for work as an actress. Bettie appeared in a couple of Off-Broadway plays in 1956, and found fame in modelling, first for camera clubs, then later for commercial redistribution. She learned of this line of work through a chance encounter in 1950 with Jerry Tibbs on a deserted beach at Coney Island. It was Tibbs who suggested her trademark bangs.
Page posed for camera clubs, sometimes in the nude. In 1951 her image appeared on the cover of men's magazines , ie., Eyeful, Route 66, Black Nylons, Stare, Beauty Parade and others. At the same time she posed for photographer Irving Klaw for mail-order photographs with a bondage or sado-masochistic theme, making her the first famous bondage model. She was the centerfold for Playboy in its January 1955 issue. (The above covers were found here)
